The month of April typically offers lighter winds with the absence of winter's cold fronts and brisk Northeast winds. Look for the best fishing action to come in the large bays which harbor structure along their shorelines including oyster bars and shallow bars.
The morning fishing is often best when there are light winds and incoming tide which produces clean, clear water. Both sea trout and redfish become more active when there is a high flooding tide with clear water conditions. This often harbors more forage foods as well including shrimp, crabs and massive schools of mullet.
One of my favorite speck and redfish tactics during the month of April is to engage my Motor-Guide electric trolling motor while navigating within casting distance of the shoreline. Working a large live shrimp under a popping cork where bait-fish are active and when the redfish and sea trout action peaks, cast a Storm, Chug Bug in the chrome and blue color pattern.
